Event #13: 2nd Annual Cookie Exchange ~ Hawthorne Fish House ~ Thursday, December 4, 2014

Our second annual cookie exchange was a great success!  We enjoyed at the Hawthorne Fish House and shared lots of cookies and recipes!

Event # 12: Petunia’s Pies and Pastries ~ Thursday, October 16, 2014

In the spirit of Halloween, come join us for a sweet treat at Petunia’s Pies and Pastries!  They are a small batch 100% dedicated GF (and vegan) bakery that has a wide selection of pies, cookies, cakes, and other sweet treats.  And if you’re not into having desert for dinner, they also have a savory menu that includes pastas, sandwiches, salads, pot pie, and more.  Hope you can join us!

Event # 11: Oswego Grill ~ Thursday, August 21, 2014

Oswego Grill  features a Custom Built Hardwood Grill, which allows them to cook all of their USDA Choice Domestic Steaks, Burgers, Fresh Seafood and even one of their Salads over Mesquite and Apple Wood.

Please note, this is NOT a 100% dedicated GF facility and there is a risk of cross contamination (better to avoid this restaurant if you are super sensitive!).

Event #10: Tamale Boy ~ Thursday, June 26th, 2014

Tamale Boy was voted as Yelp’s 2012 Dish of Year.  Their tamales are handmade with fresh, local organic ingredients.  Tamale Boy offers a delicious, healthy and affordable alternative to the usual Mexican fare. With plenty of vegetarian and vegan options, their menu features ingredients from the best local Northwest produce and meats.  Please note, this is NOT a 100% dedicated GF facility but the owner assured me that the risk for cross contamination is very low.  Their entire menu (tamales and tacos) is gluten free with the exception of their burritos, which are made with flour tortillas (prepared on a different surface from the rest of the items).

Event #9: Mama Leo’s ~ Thursday, May 22, 2014

Mama Leo’s creates a rich fusion of tastes and aromas, selecting and preparing the freshest most authentic ingredients available. Their goal is to not only serve delicious food but to share a taste of Colombian and Venezuelan culture with the city of Portland. Mama Leo’s is 100% gluten free WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ONE DESERT THAT IS MADE OFF SITE. The restaurant is also willing to accommodate diners with other allergies or sensitivities (i.e., dairy).

Event #8: GIG Gluten Free Food Fest ~ Saturday, April 26, 2014

The Gluten Intolerance Groups (GIG) of the NW region of Oregon (Portland, McMinnville, Lincoln City and Salem) is hosting the 10th annual Gluten-Free Food Fair. They will have over 70 GF vendors, approximately 80-85% of which will be local businesses. This is a fundraising event for the GIG of Portland, a non-profit 501(c)3 to educate, reach out and support the gluten-free community in Portland. This event is also family friendly so bring the kids!

Event #7: Verde Cocina (Pearl District Location) ~ Thursday, April 17, 2014
This is a 100% dedicated GF restaurant and they also have vegan and peanut allergy icons on their menu.  They specialize in Mexican cuisine made with fresh and locally sourced ingredients.  Also, their tortillas are all handmade using GF certified corn masa.

Event #6: Hood River’s 1st Annual Cider Fest ~ Saturday, April 12, 2014
Artisan ciders will be the main attraction at the Hood River Chamber of Commerce’s 1st annual Hard-Pressed Cider Fest on Saturday, April 12, 2014. As the local cider industry has grown in the valley so have the demands of hard cider drinkers. This event is an opportunity for seasoned and novice cider drinkers alike to sample cider from Hood River County’s very own cider makers as well as a variety of additional Northwest Cideries. A menu of local cuisines (not sure about the GF-ness of these vendors), produce and arts vendors, a kid’s area, and a local line-up of music from bluegrass to classic rock, guarantees a great time for the whole family. Sorry no dogs or pets.

Event #5: Brooklyn House ~ Thursday, March 20, 2014

Imagine a restaurant where you are served a full basket of warm bread that’s crusty on the outside and soft the inside, that tastes amazing and that won’t make you feel like shit.  This place exists and it’s called the Brooklyn House.  That’s right, they carry gluten free sourdough baguettes from New Cascaida Bakery and serve it up warm with garlic butter.  Holy YUM!  If you want something to go with your bread, try one of their delicious salads, pasta dishes or sausage with cabbage and sauerkraut.

The Brooklyn House is a 100% dedicated GF restaurant and they can adapt their menu items to accommodate those with other food allergies (i.e., soy, peanut, etc.) as well as paleo, vegetarian and vegan diets. However, for those who are super sensitive, you may want to stay away from their pasta options (they get their GF pasta from a local facility that is not dedicated GF and there is a risk for cross contamination).  It’s refreshing to see the BH team’s passion for creating food that’s good for you and their caution when preparing dishes for those with strict dietary restrictions.

Event #4: Teote ~ Monday, February 17, 2014
This restaurant is not certified GF. Teote does not use any wheat or any other gluten containing flours, however the masa they import from Columbia is not certified GF and could possibly have a cross contamination of gluten containing products. Teote has done their best to create a allergen conscious menu and according to their website, many of their customers who are celiac and/or sensitive to gluten have not reported any ill affects from eating at Teote.

Event #3: Hawthorne Fish House ~ Wednesday, January 15, 2014
This is a 100% gluten free facility, with the exception of beer and crackers offered with their soups.  I’m addicted to their fish tacos and crab pepper cheese soup, while Ken swears by their fish and chips.  Also, don’t pass up on their coconut rum cake – it’s decadent!

Event #2: Jade Teahouse & Patisserie ~ Thursday, December 19, 2013
This is NOT a 100% dedicated GF facility and there is a potential risk of cross contamination. However, they are very conscientious of their kitchen practices and take GF dietary restrictions seriously.  I’ve eaten here several times and always try something different – it’s all good!

Event #1: Harvester Brewing Taproom ~ Thursday, November 21, 2013
This is a 100% dedicated GF brewery and restaurant. I’m in love with their beers and their delicious food is always made with fresh local ingredients.
